The Depths is a return to the "second" world format that A Link to the Past established. They did an impressive job of expanding upon the original BOTW world, but it can only be done so many times. So there isn't much they can really do unless they stick to one biome such as a disaster that makes the whole map a sandy plain with oasis's dotted around the map, or a map that's just purely a forest or covered in snow etc, which sounds cool in principle but then people would still moan about it being too samey.
